Welcome to My Blog

By Kristen Rucker
welcome therapy mental health

I’m so glad you’re here. Whether you found this blog through my therapy practice, a referral from a friend, or a late-night search for answers about something you’ve been carrying — welcome. This space is for you.

As a Licensed Master Social Worker specializing in trauma recovery, I’ve spent years walking alongside people as they navigate some of the most difficult experiences of their lives. What I’ve learned is that healing doesn’t only happen in the therapy room. It happens in the quiet moments when something you read shifts your perspective, when you finally have language for what you’ve been feeling, or when you realize you’re not alone in your experience.

What You’ll Find Here

This blog will be a place where I share insights from my clinical work and ongoing training in evidence-based therapeutic approaches. You can expect posts on topics like:

  • Trauma recovery — understanding how trauma lives in the body and mind, and what the path forward can look like
  • EMDR therapy — demystifying Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and how it helps the brain process painful memories
  • IFS parts work — exploring Internal Family Systems therapy and learning how to build a compassionate relationship with every part of yourself
  • Betrayal trauma — resources and perspectives for those navigating the aftermath of relational betrayal
  • Practical self-care — grounding techniques, nervous system regulation strategies, and small daily practices that support emotional well-being

Why I Started Writing

In my sessions, I often find myself wishing I could hand clients an article that explains exactly what we just talked about — something they could revisit at home when the insights from our session start to feel distant. This blog is my attempt to create that resource. Every post will be grounded in clinical knowledge but written in plain, human language because therapy concepts shouldn’t feel like textbooks.

A Note on Reading This Blog

Nothing here is a substitute for working with a licensed therapist. If you’re in crisis, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) or contact a mental health professional in your area. What I hope this blog can do is offer you a starting point — a place to learn, reflect, and feel a little less alone in whatever you’re going through.

I’m looking forward to sharing this space with you. If there’s a topic you’d like me to write about, don’t hesitate to reach out. Healing is not a straight line, but every step forward matters — even the small ones.
