Kristen Rucker, LMSW — Licensed Master Social Worker in Brentwood, Tennessee

Hi, I'm Kristen

I feel incredibly lucky to do this work. I don't see you as broken. I believe every pattern, every reaction, every part of you that drives you crazy makes complete sense. So much of our work together will be learning to become your own loving parent, to give yourself the good things you have always needed.

I am a human first, one who believes in doing my own therapeutic work, now and always. I don't have all the answers, but that's okay, because your insight matters far more than mine. What I can offer is a place to spread it all out and look at it together, someone who will sit beside you, be present, stay curious with you, and encourage you to trust yourself.

I will hold hope and belief in you until you can hold it for yourself.

My husband and I were both born and raised in Middle Tennessee and it is such a sweet place to raise our two boys. I love all the personality tests and I am a 9w8 on the Enneagram. Off the clock you will find me watching Preds games, reading fiction, riding my bike leisurely through the neighborhood, watching crime TV, drinking a crisp Diet Coke, and listening to Taylor Swift and absolutely calling it self-care. I think it all counts.

How I Work

Therapeutic Approach

I draw on several evidence-based modalities, tailoring each session to what you need most. Here are the primary approaches I use.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

We all have an inner system, parts that protect, parts that carry pain, and parts that learn to manage at a cost. None of those parts are the enemy. The work isn't about silencing the difficult ones. It's about getting curious and compassionate toward all of them. We don't rush, ignore, or judge here. We notice, name, and witness, and we let those parts show us what they've been holding. That's when something actually shifts. And it almost always surprises us.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR helps your brain do what it was always designed to do: process and move through past experiences so they no longer hold the same emotional and physical charge. Think of it as giving your brain the chance to finally finish what it started. Using gentle bilateral stimulation, we work through what got stuck at a pace that feels safe.

Betrayal Trauma

Betrayal trauma is some of the most tender and disorienting work there is, and it is work I am specially trained in as an Associate Partner Trauma Therapist (APTT) certified through IITAP. I work from a trauma-focused lens because what you are experiencing is not an overreaction. It is a trauma response, and it deserves to be treated as one.
